Edito – Laurent Wauquiez, President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region
Since the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region took over the Presidency of the “Four Motors for Europe”, I have seen just how much potential there is in this unique agreement between great European regions. From the moment it was created in 1998 to the present day, the regions in the “Four Motors for Europe” have been working together for the benefit of their people, their businesses and their scientific and university establishments. The purpose of this agreement is to promote a Europe of Regions, a solid and pragmatic Europe, a Europe with plans, which works closely with its regions.
Since May 2016, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has been steering the “Four Motors for Europe” in the spirit of these ideas and with three main priorities: transforming the industrial model via the digital world and industry of the future; making the transition to a decarbonised economy, and moving towards cultural and creative industries for job creation. Innovation, creating jobs for tomorrow, and putting our Regions on the international stage are central to an ambitious Four Motors agreement within a strong Europe. This is the message the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region wishes to continue sending out to its partners.
The Four Motors’ economic missions are always a great opportunity to strengthen our Regions’ economic activity and university sectors. The Scandinavian mission, with its dual focus on life sciences and Clean Tech, will open up new economic and technological opportunities. In Scandinavia, the “Four Motors” will have the chance to share good practice between communities, to exchange knowledge and experience with the world leaders, to set up new research projects with high-level establishments, and to explore new business opportunities.
I would like to thank the entire Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes delegation, and especially Etienne Blanc, 1st Vice-president, as well as our partners from Baden-Wurttemberg, Catalonia, and Lombardy for their participation and unswerving commitment. I wish you every success in this mission.
You can count on the support of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region in strengthening our ties and continuing to drive the Four Motors. I am convinced that Europe must change, and this is why the Four Motors must persist and become even stronger.
I wish you all a very successful mission!
President, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region
